Question Map Downloads

I just installed guild wars on new computer but I'm having to wait for area downloads which sucks cause it takes a few minutes depending on what area I'm going into, I seen on here you can alter the shortcut properties but it doesn't work for me, I don't see the shortcut tab when I open the properties it only has General, Web Document, Security, Details and Previous Versions, also I didn't buy the game by itself, I bought it and play it from Steam if that makes a difference. any help would be great.

I'm not sure how Steam does things but the argument you're talking about is the -image command.

1. Navigate to the directory you installed Guild Wars in.

2. Right click Gw.exe and create a shortcut (send it to the desktop).

Quote:
3. Right click on your Guild Wars shortcut and select 'Properties'.
In the 'Target Area' field you will see the location of your Guild Wars executable file:

"<...>\Guild Wars\Gw.exe"

4. Write the desired command line arguments after the quote marks, each beginning with a space:

"<...>\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -image

-image Forces the game to load all known updates.

The program terminates after the update is completed; Guild Wars will not be able run with this parameter on.
Recommended: Create an extra Guild Wars shortcut (e.g. "Guild Wars Updater") specifically to use this command line switch.
-image updates gw.dat; after updating, that file can be be transferred over to other machines.
There can be up to 4 gigabytes of data to download. Once -image completes, the exact file size of gw.dat will vary across installations.

In Steam, you want to right-click on the game and choose Properties. Under the General tab, click Set Launch Options and add the -image there. I unfortunately don't have Guild Wars on Steam, but that's how I proceed to add stuff to my other games.

I'm pretty sure that no matter how you download the game, the end result on the disk is the same.

So, find the Guild wars directory in Steams data folder, ind gw.exe, make a shortcut to it and then open the properties of the shortcut, and add -image there.

NOTE! when run with -image, GW doesn't launch after it stops downloading, so you'll need to remove the switch after downloading is done.
